2011 Mercury Rising Percussion Ensemble

Senior Division:

Tuition: $325

The Senior Division of the MRPE is an elite group of students looking for performance opportunities that will challenge and inspire! The Senior Division present a full concert program of approximately 15 pieces at the culmination of the session. Members rotate instruments for each piece in order to enhance each performer’s experience.

Students applying for the Senior Division should:
- be between the ages of 12 and 18
- have a minimum of two years of private lessons or experience in a school music program
- demonstrate proficiency reading involved mallet music
- have knowledge of and ability to play in time signatures such as 3/4, 6/8, 9/8 and 2/2 (cut time)
- be comfortable with rhythmic values such as all sixteenth note combinations, dotted eighth notes and triplets
- understand basic standard musical terms
- have the ability to manage personal practice time and arrive prepared to rehearse
- private lessons are strongly recommended

Music will be challenging but within reach. All Senior division students will be expected to practice music before the session begins and between rehearsals. A teacher’s recommendation is strongly recommended.


Rising Artists Division:

Tuition: $285

The MRPE Rising Artists are students who have shown proficiency in playing percussion and would like to expand their horizons.

The Rising Artist Division is open to students who:
- are between the ages of 7 and 12
- have taken lessons or participated in a school music program for at least one year
- have a basic understanding of reading mallet music
- be comfortable with rhythmic values such as eighth notes and eighth rests
- understand basic sixteenth note rhythms
- have the ability to self-govern and focus in a rehearsal setting
